It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, provided by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the character of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
