Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then found many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state preliminary tests show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official said the vandalism left him without words and required to be solved rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
