Aggressive, Coercive, Imperialistic: the Resurgence of the Negative U.S. Stereotype

For many years, each U.S. leader has attempted to clear the America of its image as a domineering, hegemonic nation. But with his boastful, often harsh conduct toward other countries, the U.S. leader has swiftly revived that concept. In his administration, the unpleasant American image is returned.

Aggressive Use of Power

Trump has done this by employing U.S. authority in assertive and arrogant ways – by criticizing foreign nations' approaches and then promising to penalize them if they fail to submit to his expectations. He is engaging in exactly what international law declares heads of state must refrain from. He has repeatedly intervened into other countries’ affairs, pressuring their representatives, berating their strategies and ignoring their sovereignty. Regularly, he views foreign nations as dependents of the America (and of his ego).

Roots of the "Negative Stereotype"

The expression “the Ugly American” was brought to prominence by a literary work published in 1958 with an identical heading; it described the insensitivity and ineptness of American envoys who typically didn’t speak the tongue where they were posted and infrequently communicated with the residents there. With time, that term was frequently employed to describe tactless and presumptuous American travelers and insensitive and presumptuous American approaches toward other nations.

International Interventions

He has behaved like an Ugly American in numerous instances. He intervened in Brazil’s internal affairs by all but ordering it to abandon the legal case of its right-leaning previous head of state (and personal friend) the Brazilian ex-president for conspiring to attempt a government overthrow to regain control. Once Brazil maintained the charges – Bolsonaro was declared culpable and sentenced to over two decades in jail – he implemented a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods.

In the past few weeks, Trump has played the Ugly, even Unhinged, American toward Canada when he became angry after viewing a commercial, funded by the region of Ontario, that contained parts of a Ronald Reagan address critical of duties. As a response, he implemented an additional 10% tariff on Canadian goods. The decision increased the displeasure of the people of Canada who were already angered about the unrealistic concept to turn Canada into the 51st state.

Trump has also tried to pressure the Latin American country. He stated the United States would terminate assistance to that country after its president, Gustavo Petro, protested that the United States had attacked a local fishing craft and caused a fisherman's death as part of Trump’s campaign of striking ships suspected of carrying illegal substances. Using harsh, undiplomatic language, Trump called the head of state an “drug trade figurehead”.

Armed Warnings

At the same time arrive his sporadic intimidations to initiate armed attacks against the Latin American nation. This evokes memories of America's baldly expansionist interventions in, such as, the Southeast Asian nation, the small nation and the Persian Gulf country, with the government overthrow in 1953 ousting a progressive prime minster. Venezuela’s president, Nicolás Maduro, is corrupt, oppressive and dictatorial, and stole an election, but defense action would be a regression to the worst days of negative U.S. behavior.

EU Affairs

He has additionally intervened in the European bloc's business. In an era when social media is overflowing with so many misinformation that it creates difficulties for elected administrations to operate, even endure, the EU has understandably instructed online networks to remove lies and other false narratives. But he has condemned the EU online rules, stating that it shows bias toward American technology firms. The U.S. government has frustrated the EU by promising to enact additional duties and constrain the entry permits of selected EU personnel.

The unpleasant U.S. strategies have done significant harm to Washington’s image abroad

Diplomatic Intervention

Trump has improperly interfered in Argentina’s politics by stating he would grant a forty billion dollar rescue package, but may retract those funds if the political group of Argentina’s rightwing president, the Argentine president, failed to secure victory legislative elections. “Should he be defeated, we are will not be generous with the nation,” he stated. The faction won, following meddling the president acknowledging involvement, saying: “He obtained significant help from our administration.”

Trump’s vice-president, the vice-president, intervened in Germany's governmental matters by attacking conventional factions for building a protective measure against letting far-right parties such as the Alternative for Germany into a governing coalition. Through an oration recently to Israel’s Knesset, he intervened in that country’s politics in an remarkable way, urging the head of state to pardon the head of government, the Israeli leader, on the corruption charges he’s facing.

United Nations Presentation

In Trump’s hour-long diatribe to the United Nations gathering in last fall, he sought to play Boss of the World. He directed the UN’s 193 member nations to discard their environmental regulations, declaring worries about environmental shifts are {“the greatest con job
